ABSTRACT
The modern concept of guided bone regeneration, has the objective to create healthy and sufficient bone in maxillary’s alveolar processes, to cover periodontal bone defects, or to obtain wide alveolar bone for support conventional manner or osseointegrated dental implant prostheses. The techniques for this regeneration imply the use of different barrier membrane materials.
This article shows our experience in guided bone regeneration, with autologous bone graft and Teflon membrane (expanded polytetrafluorethylene) (e-PTFE) for plumbers, sterilized in ethylene Oxide gas, showing excellent clinical results in the bone regeneration of thin alveolar processes, around dental implants with peripheral bone defects, or even in cases of mandibular fractures complicated with pseudoartrosis. The use of this material reduces importantly the cost of treatment.
