ABSTRACT
Objective. To determinate the morbidity developed in a group of newborns with perinatal antecedents for neurological risk.
Subjects and methods. We reviewed newborn files with some perinatal antecedents for neurological risk and we analyzed their neonatal morbidity, and also described the imaging studies in the newborns that required of them.
Results. We analyzed 32 files, the gestational age was 34.5 ± 4 weeks (media and standard deviation) and the birth weight was 2,151 ± 980 g. All newborns had some disease during the hospitalization; the most frequent were respiratory and metabolic diseases. Twenty three (71.9%) newborns had some abnormality in one of the different neurological studies versus 9 (28.1%) without neurological abnormalities.
Conclusions. In this study, the newborns present at least one disease during their hospitalization and the majority developed some kind of neurological injury with not necessary asphyxia perinatal.
