ABSTRACT

Immunoproliferative disease (or Mediterranean disease) is a lymphoma related to Campylobacter jejuni infection, which is characterized by an excessive production of plasmatic cells, which lacks of alpha light chains and produces defi cient heavy chains. Patients, generally in the third and fourth decades of life, have chronic diarrhea and intestinal malabsorption syndrome. It is very infrequent in children and adolescents. We report the case of a 16-year old girl, with intestinal malapsortion syndrome and chronic diarrhea. Esophagus biopsies were normal; stomach’s and duodenal showed an extended lymphoplasmocytic infi ltrate in the lamina propria. Immunohistochemical study showed plasmatic cells and cytokeratins showed lymphoepithelial lesion, which characterizes this disease.
