ABSTRACT

Pyomyositis is endemic in tropical areas. Tipical imagen is an abscess that requires chirurgic treatment. Pyomyositis is a bacterial infection of the muscle characterized by purulent material within the muscles. This infection is known as “tropical pyomyositis”, it is present in 1 to 4% hospital admissions. Staphylococcus aureus is present in 75 to 90% of the cases. Pyomyositis is less frequent in temperate climas such as North America, nonetheless incidence is increasing particularly in VIH+, diabetic or malnourished patients but it is also found in healthy persons.
We describe the case of a 9 years old child with pyomyositis in cuadriceps muscle ultrasound and computerized tomography and bacterial culture. Treatment with antibiotics gave clinical and imagenologic resolution.
