ABSTRACT

Schwannoma are rare tumors, that grow slowly, which are comprised in the gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumor family. The most common location is the stomach, followed by the colon and rectum. They usually present no symptoms; when they do, it is usually upper digestive bleeding and early saciety. Schwannomas are benign tumors, malignant transformation is extremely rare. Complete resection gives an excellent long-term prognosis. A case of a 25-year old woman with hematemesis and anemia, due to a gastric schwannoma, is presented. Tumor was positive for S-100 protein and vimentine. She was treated with complete laparoscopic resection, with intraoperative endoscopic control.
