ABSTRACT
Introduction: Hydronephrosis due to urinary tract obstruction is expected in most urological diseases. The longest time or severity of obstruction, the kidney will show more damage. The etiology is different according with the age. Children present uretero-pielic obstruction because of congenit anatomic malformation. In young adult people obstruction is more often because of lithiasis and in older people, prostatic hyperplasia cancer or retroperitoneal tumors are the most common causes.
Patient and methods: 19 years old male with upper gastrointestinal bleeding is received. On admission an abdominal solid tumor in the left abdomen is found at the exploration. Panendoscopy reports hiatal hernia and severe esophagitis, abdominal ultrasound and computed tomography report severe left hydronephrosis and loss of renal parenchyma. Surgical treatment by laparoscopic left nephrectomy was performed and fundoplication with no complications. Postsurgical evolution was good and the patient was discharged.
Conclusions: Nephrectomy is indicated in a 90% loss of renal function. New techniques of minimally invasive surgery can be done with a low rate of morbidity compared with conventional surgery.
