Surgical treatment of breast nodules during pregnancy

ABSTRACT

Background: Only in Mexico, about four thousand women die from breast cancer diagnosed in the 11 mil. Is undoubtedly the most malignant disease worldwide are diagnosed each year as more than a million every year and the figure grows.
Objective: To analyze results of six years of experience in the therapeutic treatment of breast nodules during pregnancy which will describe the treatment, the diagnosis is established by biopsy of the breast and will be reported complications associated with obtaining them.
Material and methods: A retrospective analysis of 20 cases diagnosed with breast lump, breast cancer and breast disease associated with pregnancy of 1 January 2001 to December 31, 2006.
Results: 19 lesions were diagnosed by a solid type and mixed by ultrasonography. 18 biopsies were obtained during pregnancy and after delivery. In 10 patients was performed by needle aspiration biopsy. In 13 women reported breast fibroadenoma and only one was diagnosed with infiltrating ductal carcinoma. In 10 patients, surgical treatment, lumpectomy was performed. Only one woman underwent modified radical mastectomy due to the finding of ductal carcinoma.
Conclusions: After the diagnosis is to decide, together with the patient, the optimal treatment to offer the best prognosis.
