Accidents in children. An epidemiological trial

ABSTRACT
Objective. Analyze the records of hospitalization for accidents in children under 15 years old in a general hospital during a two years period. Material and methods. Three hundred and one medical records were revised in relation to the following variables: sex, age, distribution, diagnosis, type of accident, place of the accident, treatment and mortality. Results. For age, the accident most frequent seen were the school age (41.8%) and teenagers (30%). Fractures were more frequently seen (45.5%) and the craneoencephalic traumatisms (39%). The most common accidents were: fallings (57.8%) follewed by traffic accidents (18.5%) and the most risky place for injuries were home (42.5%) and public places (25.9%); 12 were hospitalized in a pediatric intensive care unit, and two of them die (0.66%). Conclusions. The most common injuries which required hospital ingress were fractures, and, in second place, craneoencephalic traumatism, both making a total of 84.5%.REFERENCES
