ABSTRACT
Objective. To report the experience in the management of benign childhood epilepsy.
Material and methods. Eight patients who fulfilled the electroclinic criteria, were studied. They were submitted to electroencephalogram, intellectual coefficient tests and computed tests and computed axial tomography in the simple and constrast phases. Different antiepileptic drugs were used. They had a minimal follow-up of one year.
Results. The average age at the beginning of symptoms was 5.3 years. There was history of familiar epilepsy and/or febrile or neonatal crisis in 4. The neurological examination was normal. Intellectual coefficient was normal in 7 and one was borderline. All had partial crisis, but one patient had secondary generalization; six patients had crisis during sleep and 2 awake. They were handled successfully with different antiepileptic drugs, except one who did not have any treatment. The crisis remission rate was high hafter a year.
The electroencephalogram showed centro-temporal spikes and one had secondary generalization. The computed axial tomography was normal in all.
