ABSTRACT

VACTER acronym defines the association of various congenital malformations, present in the same patient: vertebral defects (V), anal atresia (A), cardiac malformations (C), tracheo-esophageal fistula, with or without esophageal atresia (TE) and radial anomalies and/ or renal (R). Its occurrence is sporadic, the etiology is unknown and its frequency is estimated at 1.6/10,000 newborns. It is believed to be part of various syndromes that share developmental defects of the neural tube and caudal mesoderm and has been associated with different mutations and teratogens. We report the unusual case of a newborn with this association, who also had acute renal injury in a solitary kidney.
