Muscle stretching therapy in treatment of growing pains

ABSTRACT
The present study reviews 84 patients with clinical picture of growing pains, since ages 2 and 8 years. Physical examination revealed tightness of the hamstring muscles in 44 (52.4%) of patients. Laboratory evaluation and roentgenographic studies were normal in all cases. All patients underwent to a lower limbs muscle stretching treatment. Results. 26% were excellent (pain disappeared); good in 26%, fairly in 44% and bad in 7%. In last group, psychiatric assesment showed disturbance in family environment. We concluded treatment of growing pains with lower limbs muscle stretching therapy is useful. Emphasize is done in the need to perform a complete differential diagnosis, and a rational multidisciplinary approach.REFERENCES
