ABSTRACT

Objective. We want to determinate the effectiveness of botulinum toxin in children’s strabismus and influences in the systemic disease. Methods. We have included children with strabismus and systemic diseases, using botulinum toxin with direct method, without any electric control. And we have registered the effect and stability in strabismus, and influences in the disease. Results. Botulinum toxin was useful to correct strabismus in neurological, hematological and muscular disorders, for several causes, such as paralytic, traumatic, tumors, degenerative, including also ocular myasthenia and prematurity. The treatment can be to correct strabismus completely or waiting to go to surgery in a better moment. Conclusions. Botulinum toxin is a very good choice to treat strabismus in children, even with chronic diseases, not only for the efficacy but also for the safe and innocuous of the direct method of application.
