ABSTRACT
The disorders mucocutaneous were studied in a population of HIV infected children, with or without full-blown AIDS, and were compared with a population of HIV seroreverted children.
The mucocutaneous manifestations were found in 24 (80%) of the children infected and in 6 (20%) of the seroreverted children (p ‹ 0.001). The prevalence of these manifestations in the immunologic categories: without suppression, moderate suppression and severe suppression, were found in 10%, 40%, and 80%, respectively. In patients within the immunologic categories moderate and severe suppression, were significantly more common than in that the patients without suppression (p ‹ 0.001). The most common finding was the oral candidiasis (41.6%). Herpes simplex, vasculitis, reactions to drugs, and nutritional deficiencies were found in 16.7%, 16.7%, 16.7%, and 12.5% of patients respectively. The majority of these cutaneous disorders have an infectious etiology and their frequency is related to the degree of deterioration of the immune system. Some diseases commonly observed in adults are rare in children; neoplasms are an exception.
