ABSTRACT

The urinary tract infection is an problem often associated with the pregnancy. The clinical entities are asymptomatic bacteriuria, cystitis and acute pyelonephritis. This consensus reviews the controversy if the screening of asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnant women should be a systematic procedure included in the prenatal care. We concluded that screening of asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnant women must be an activity that should be present in the prenatal care and the treatment with antibiotics must be indicated in all diagnosed cases.
