ABSTRACT

The relation between cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and condilomata of venereal etiology has been long established. Some types of VPH are oncogenic both in vitro and in vivo, showing its capacity to act as cofactors in malignancies of the cervix, vulva and vagina. Their prevalence among consorts of women showing HVP lesions, or abnormal cervical smears ranks from 66 to 88%, proves that men are important vehicles in transmission and dissemination of these diseases. A citology study in urethral brushing of 756 sexually active men was carried out in open population to detect of subclinical carriers of HPV, and establish the prevalence of this infection in general population. Citology to HPV was positive in 3.2% of the cases, inflammatory signs in 10.7% and negative in 86.0%.
