ABSTRACT

There are a great variety of orthopaedic diseases that might affect children and teenagers in there growing years. Deffects in the epiphysial growth is one of them. The epiphysis is where the bone grows in length. That is why problems at this site may cause long lasting sequels to the joint. Adolecent coxa vara is an illness that affects the growing cartilage at the upper femoral epiphysis. The residual deformity that it produces has several and important complications such as avascular necrosis, chondrolysis and degenerative ostheoatritis. The prognosis of adolescent coxa vara depends on the time between the beginning ORTOPEDIAof it and the time of treatment instauration, understandably an early diagnosis is essential.This article reviews a case in wish a patient with slipped upper femoral epiphysis initially complains of knee pain secondary to trauma according to her and her mother. This specific case reminds physicians of the importance of suspecting hip affectation with knee pain as a symptom.
