Key words:

Caravaggio´s Amore dormiente, rickets, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, differential diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

Caravaggio´s painting “Amore dormiente” is subjected to a diagnostic exercise. Our impression has been that of a toddler with severe rickets. It has been challenged by others, who assert a diagnosis of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. A semiotic analysis of the physical features of the model is attempted.
