ABSTRACT

Thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO) is few frequent in our environment, with occlusive arterial that occurs mainly in the small and medium-sized vessels, of unknown cause with humoral and immunological factors that affect peripheral microcirculation. One case is presented who finished with bilateral amputation of the lower limbs, with heavy smoking and physical, mental and family repercutions, without getting work installation. Bibliography was reviewed, it’s underline the importance of smoking in the disease onset and its maintenance, its epidemiology, its diagnosis criteria, complementary studies, proposed treatments and its natural evolution. The final outcome of present case was failed. Iloprost is a available drug only in Europe. Transference surgery of omentus, sympathectomy and spinal cord stimulation had not been effectives. Amputation of lower limbs is a final resource for saving patient’s life.
