ABSTRACT

Blood diseases comprise a group of disorders that, depending of the affected blood cell, may predispose patients to infections, bleeding, poor oxygenation, and even death.
Erythrocytes are anucleados cells whose cytoplasm contains haemoglobin, which is responsible of transporting oxygen to tissues and carbon dioxide to the lungs for gas exchange.
The objective of this research is to emphasize the oral manifestations and stomatological management of abnormal erythrocytes (anemia, polycythemia).
Conclusions: It is important that the dentist be aware of oral manifestations of abnormal erythrocytes, it can be the first symptom in some cases helping to diagnose of disease and preventing complications.
