ABSTRACT

Introduction: Scoliosis is a lateral deflection of the vertebral column. The most common clinical sign is lack of posture. Radiology technique useful is from Cobb and Risser. Objective: Show how useful is interference current with a normal therapy exercises based on Klan techniques in order to get vertebral column correction or stop idiopathic scoliosis and avoid physical dysfunction. Design: It is a longitudinal, prospective, randomized and comparative study. Methods: Subjects. Forty-six children with idiopathic scoliosis from Rehabilitation Department of Instituto Nacional de Pediatría, in Mexico City, between October 2000 and February 2001 which meet the inclusion criteria. Were aligned in two groups by randomized way: Group One electrical stimulation plus stretching extended exercises and Group Two just use Klapp technique in 40 days therapy treatment. Analysis: Mean, percentage, Student’s t. Results: Age: between 4 to 15 years old. (mean: 11 years). We got significance in curves of 10o (ten degrees) of thoracic and thoraco-lumbar (p ‹ 0.05). Conclusion: Children with idiopathic scoliosis, got a well response to the treatment with interference current plus stretching exercises in 40 treatment therapies. This kind of treatment decreases physical dysfunction, no matter the type of the curve.
