ABSTRACT

Central giant cell granulomas (CGCG) are lesions found almost exclusively in the superior maxilla and mandible. More than 60% of cases occur in patients of 30 years of age or under, and approximately 65% of these cases are reported in women. They are twice as common in the mandible as they are in the maxilla and are aggressive in nature. In radiographic analyses, most lesions (i.e. around 90%) appear as an expansive, unilocular or multilocular radiolucency. In 56% of cases, lesion borders are well defined, in 30% poorly defined, and in 14% diffuse. Possible treatment includes surgical excision, curettage and block resection. We present a clinical case of CGCG treated through the intralesional application of corticosteroids.
