ABSTRACT
Objective: To analyze the potential dietary fluoride intake through food provided at childcare facilities in the Mexican city of San Luis Potosí.
Method: The determination of fluoride was achieved using potentiometry with an ion-selective electrode in duplicate samples of an 8-day diet per season, prepared according to the Taves diffusion technique.
Results: The potential fluoride intake is described in micrograms, for three age groups: from 45 days to 6 months, 18 to 36 months, and 36 to 72 months. Spring: 343.77 ± 13.06; 500.02 ± 28.14; and 630.40 ± 39.02. Fall values were 542.90 ± 157.92; 231.00 ± 884.02 and 1090.59 ± 262.81, respectively.
Conclusions: It was found that the average potential intake for the fall is greater than that for spring, and greater than the recommended intake for children and infants aged between 45 days and 6 years old.
