ABSTRACT

The respect for people’s ontological dignity in contemporary medical procedures finds its fullest expression in the light of personalism nourished by theories and systems which, whilst not wrong, are merely approximations. In combination, these can result in caring treatment for our patients and in the development of community relations. Health agents must approach their daily duties as collaborators in the process of preserving or restoring health. Today’s trend towards instrumentation and hyper-specialization makes the disappearance of the core commitment of health agents to those they are meant to serve, ever more likely. Personalism and its gradual convergence with health issues may shed light on the beneficial path to be followed by both health agents and those who seek their collaboration.
