The scientific productivity dentistry in Mexico were studied of those the articles indexed in the Bibliomex Catalogs, the only index of mexican publications in biomedicine and health from 1989 to 1996 and the Cuaderno del Programa Universitario de Investigacion Clinica: Bibliografia Mexicana Sobre Ciencias Biomedicas y de la Salud published between 1982 and 1985.The most important findings were: the scientific productivity in dentistry was 2.23% of nations productivity, it is concentrated in the ADM Journal (68.2%), the authors are located mainly in high education institutes (47.59 %). The journals with worldwide diffusion were only 8.21% of the total, although there were other sources (29 journals). The conclusion is that the national productivity is low, much lower the one found in foreign journals, and however these publications quality is high so they are indexed worldwide. Information given by other authors rank Mexico as number one in the ten top-ranking countries in terms of percentage of documents published in the best five world journals.
