ABSTRACT
A group of 79 obese patients were studied, 38.8 ± 6.5 years old, and a control group of 26 subjects of 42.3 ± 13.0 years old. Both groups were underwent clinical history, rest EKG and maximal exercise test were done with Bruce’s protocol.
Results: BMI: 38.1 ± 6.5 kg/m
2 and 24.1 ± 2.5 respectively, p ‹ 0.05; height: 1.59 ± 0.17 m vs 1.61 ± 0.18, no significative difference. Biproduct: 23,200 ± 1,709 vs 27,024 vs 1,140 p ‹ 0.05. Metabolic index: 8.7 ± 2.1 mets vs 13.0 ± 2.8, p ‹ 0.05. VO
2máx 29.6 + 5.3 mL/kg/min vs 40.7 ± 7.6 p ‹ 0.05. Exercise test time: 522 ± 126 sec. vs 780 ± 168 p ‹ 0.05. Positive exercise test was in 7 obese patients. Coronary risk factors: sedentary way of life: 100% vs 65%, hypertension: 38% vs 0%, hypercholesterolemia: 37% vs 30%, smoking: 23% vs 34%, diabetes mellitus: 17% vs 3%.
Conclusions: Obese patients have lower cardiovascular condition and more coronary factors.
