ABSTRACT
The objective of this monographic paper is to provide the reader with an understanding of the complex issues in the evaluation and treatment of the older person with instability. First, we will define the problem of falls in the elderly from an epidemiologic pespective. Then we will delineate the multiple interacting factors in falls, we will review the role of postural control instability. Based on the above information, we will present a strategy for the comprehensive assessment of the older faller, and finally, we will discuss the principles of treatment.
