State strategy to combat dengue in Colima (Mexico)

ABSTRACT

The world-wide incidence of dengue increased in a spectacular form in the last few decades, approximately a 40% of the world-wide population runs the risk of contracting the disease. The costs of the medical attention, plus the cyclical tendency of Dengue, have become a challenge for the health systems, product of migration, globalization, urbanization and climatic change, in 2009 Colima had the first place in range in the country, contributing in some week of the 2009 the 22% of the total of cases of the country, meanwhile the total of the occident region contributed with the 45. At the moment the only way to prevent the dengue’s virus spread is the fight against the mosquitos cycle that transmits the disease, in the future there’s a glimpse of several alternatives, like vaccines and genetic modification of the mosquito.
