extranodal lymphomas, MALT.

ABSTRACT

Background: In the last 50 years, the increment in the frequency of lymphomas was of 4%. This desease is the fifth cause of cancer in Mexico, being more frequent in the elderly, mainly in men, and particularly in patients with primary and secondary immunosuppression.
Objectives: Primary: To determine the frequency of lymphomas with primary extranodal presentation. Secondary: To describe the clinical characteristics of extranodal lymphomas, and to determine the frequency of extranodal lymphoma by age and sex.
Material and methods: Observational, retrospective, descriptive open study. It included all the cases of patients with a histopathology diagnostic of lymphoma in a period of two years, obtaining the data from their clinical history and histopathological report.
Results: 48 cases of lymphomas were diagnosed; appearing more frequently in patients age 60 or older, mainly in masculine patients. Extranodal lymphomas represent 22,9% of the cases (11 cases).
Conclusions: Primary extranodal presentation lymphomas represent 22,9% of the total of lymphomas, more frequently developed in men 60 years or older.
