Retroperitoneal leiomyoma. Case report

ABSTRACT

The retroperitoneales tumors have a malignant behavior of 80% and benign 20%. Leiomyomas are rare tumor, with an important volume, well delimited. They occupy less of 1% of all the retroperitoneal tumors.
Case report: A 67 years old woman with history of fever, which respond to antipyretic medication. She presented to emergency department because o persistent fever and pain in the right upper abdomen. Physical examination reveals an abdominal mass that occupies the entire right flank. A CT scan shows a mass depending of the renal capsule, with no affected ganglia, and with out compromises of big vessels. She underwent a radical nephrectomy. Pathology report was: a retroperitoneal leiomyoma of cellular type. The benign retroperitoneales tumors are infrequent; however, they may have big dimensions that make surgical procedure as difficult as oncology procedures with all the complications kwon.
