ABSTRACT

There are different methods to assess clinically and radiologically the status of patients with spinal trauma. The purpose of the study was the correlate clinically and radiologically the level of the injury on the spine, to learn weather the injury was complete or not and their relation to vertebral fractures. In short clinical evaluation was achieved using six parameters of the ASIA classification and 5 radiographic parameters. There method provides an accurate evaluation of the diagnosis, outcome and an adequate design the therapy to be instituted. Up to date in a study that started on January 1999, and that will come to an end on December 2000, in the Orthopaedics Clinic at Hospital Juárez de México. We have performed a complete evaluation, clinical and radiological of 29 patients with spine trauma. Regardless of the level of experience (since our clinic not only deals with trauma patients), the method does not prevent a complete diagnostic evaluation form being performed, and then allows an effective and fast treatment, which prevents worsening of skeletal and neurologic damage.
