ABSTRACT

Introduction: Brain tumors are divided according to their histology, one of these divisions being the primitive neuroectodermic tumor, a pathology usually presented in children. Case: 36 year old man with tumor in the left front temporal lobe on which craniotomy was performed with histopathologic diagnoses of primitive neuroectodermic tumor with glial differentiation. Discussion: Primitive neuroectodermic tumor is an infrequent pathological entity 2.8% in children and sporadic cases in adults, 57 cases reported in literature. The primitive neuroectodermic tumor has also been classified in the central PNET and the peripheral PNET. There is a suggestion stating that the intracranial peripheral primitive neuroectodermic tumor has a better prognosis than the PNET central, for which its differentiation is important. The differentiation of these variations are made with pathology studies with immunohistochemistry (CD99). Conclusion: It is an infrequent tumor in adult with poor prognosis, it requires aggressive treatment with surgery and radiotherapy throughout the neural axis.
