ABSTRACT

Esophageal atresia, with or without tracheoesophageal fistula, is a disorder that appears in 1:3,000 to 1:4,500 newborns and represents a challenge in medical and surgical treatment, the success depends on accuracy diagnosis, pre and postoperative care, the surgical technique, management of complications and the absence of risk factors. We present the case of one of two twins affected by esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula without prenatal diagnosis, with clinical manifestation: obstruction at esophagic catheter introduction, images: chest roentgenogram with barium that shows blind proximal pouch, as determinant in diagnosis procedures, surgical procedure and findings. There are few papers like this in which one of two twins is affected.
