Ceruminous adenoma with intracranial extension. A report of a case and bibliographic review

ABSTRACT

The case of a 59-year-old male with pain at retroauricular area of the right side, with extension to ipsilateral ear, shoulder and half of the face; tinnitus for a few seconds, during one year. Increment of size in lateral right face and extension to mastoid area, slowly progressive right hypoacusis during three months. He was admitted to otorhinolaryngology service with otorragic of the right side which stopped with Gelfoam®. Physical evaluation: Right external ear canal showed a bleeding purple mass. Second mass at the right posterior neck triangle approximately of 2 x 3 cm, with extension to mastoid. Image research showed a mass which origin was at the external ear with mastoid, neck and intracranial involvement. The patient underwent to a retrosigmoid approach with posterior craniotomy, after surgical resection the complete mass was obtained. Pathologic report showed cerominous adenoma.
