ABSTRACT

Objective: To compare the efficacy of electrofulguration in bilateral tubal occlusion versus Pomeroy’s.
Patients and methods: The study included 60 female patients with satisfied fertility, divided into two groups. Group A with 30 patients, who were submitted to bilateral proximal tubarian occlusion by means of laparoscopic electrofulguration. Group B with 30 patients who also underwent tubarian occlusion by means of Pomeroy technique. There were assessed: patient age, amount of bleeding, surgical time, route of approach and hospital stay.
Results: Group A showed an average age of 33.7 years and group B 32.2 years. Group A presented 43.60 mL of bleeding and group B 39.66 mL. The operative time for Group A was 23.83 minutes and Group B 28.16 minutes. All patients in group A underwent laparoscopic intervention. Group B underwent suprapubic, and infraumbilical approach in 66.3 and 33.6%, respectively. All patients in both groups were hospitalized for 24 hours after procedure.
Conclusions: No significant difference between the two groups in terms of quantity of bleeding and surgical time, age and hospital stay were found.
