ABSTRACT

It presents a line of sutures to be used in 1-port laparoscopic surgery, which allow haemostasis, union, approximation, traction and triangulation of the tissues replacing clips, assistance ports and laparoscopic instruments, in order to improve aesthetic and functional results. From December 1997 to December 2010, we have reviewed prospective, longitudinal, 2696 patients operated of different diseases with 1-Port Laparoscopic Surgery, by a same surgical group. Polypropylene or nylon endosutures, of variable length, with straight and curved needles were used. Initially performed in homemade and currently under commercial manufacturing. The endosutures efficiently replaced clips, assistance ports and laparoscopic instruments, allowing the successful completion of various surgical procedures, improving the aesthetic and functional results without 3 to 4 ports and 5-10 mm laparoscopic instruments. We conclude that the use of endosutures in Laparoscopic Surgery with 1 Port has proved over the years to be useful in a wide range of procedures, allowing better aesthetic and functional results than traditional laparoscopic surgery.
