ABSTRACT

Anatomic and functional alterations in congenital defects as in the case of cleft lip and palate, repercuse on growth as well as development and are exposed in voice quality and language articulation. There are many surgical procedures to correct this. Different specialists must give treatment. An alternative to improve functional sequelae is to insert a prosthetic speech appliance that substitutes the relationship between the veil of the palate with the pharynx to cover the cleft palate or some postsurgical defect.
