Emotional impact of sexuality information on adolescent patients suffering from myelomeningocele

ABSTRACT
Objective: To know if changes in the self-perception in adolescent patients exist later to a talk of sexual education as it leaves from the integral handling of rehabilitation.
Material and methods: Study cuasiexperimental, cross-sectional and prospective. 18 patients invited themselves, with ages between 12 and 18 years, both sexes and consent informed into its parents. Leaf of registry with name, number, age, type and level of injury. A test was made projective of the human figure of Koppitz, previous and subsequent to the thematic one of sexual direction. Descriptive statistic was applied.
Results: Of 18 patients, 17 (94%) parents authorized the informed consent; 12 of feminine sex (70.58%) and 5 (29.41%) of the masculine one. In 13 (76.4%) it was not detected some change in the self-perception, in 2 (11.7%) appeared a change positive, 1 patient (5.8%) presented/displayed a negative impact and another patient it left the study.
Conclusions: Result did not support the work hypothesis. It is possible that with long term pursuit and with greater number of sessions on education sexual a significant change in the self-perception can be obtained of patients with respect to the sexuality.
