ABSTRACT

Cutaneous larva migrans (CLM) infection is a ubiquitous self-limited skin eruption, most frequently caused by the larva of dog and cat hookworms. CLM has been frequently misdiagnosed, and/or treated inappropriately, and mimics dermatologic diseases. The infection is acquired by humans when they walk barefoot or lie on sandy or shady areas, particularly around beaches and basements. The lesions of cutaneous larva migrans are classic, there may be single or multiple serpiginous tracks. Diagnosis can be made when a supportive history of possible exposure exists.
