ABSTRACT
Fracture of the coronoid process is rare, it is 1 to 2 percent of all mandibular fractures. Often accompanied by other facial fractures mainly of the zygomatic arch. The first report of this fracture was described by Clarkson, Wilson and Lawrie in 1946 during the Second World War in the British Navy personnel. The etiology is trauma caused by direct head-motor vehicle collisions and street fights, but has also referred to iatrogenic. They are classified coronoid fractures intramuscular and submuscular, according to their attachment and displacement. Treatment is conservative, but in some cases may require surgery if limited jaw movements, severe pain or malocclusion are present. The importance of fracture of the coronoid process lies in diagnosing fractures of the zygomatic arch and the likely limitation of mandibular opening and closing. A case of male patient aged 49 with a fractured mandibular coronoid process valued at the Hospital General Dr. Darío Fernández Fierro, ISSSTE.REFERENCES
