ABSTRACT

Some gastrointestinal cancers can present as abdominal emergencies that require surgical interventions. In some cases, these problems might not be related to the cancer itself. For other patients, clinicians must be cognizant of the potential complications associated with progression or treatment disease. This article reviews common abdominal complications and emergencies that are encountered in patients with a cancer diagnosis. Problems that require surgical consultation include obstruction, perforation and hemorrhage.
