Odontogenic sinus tract.

ABSTRACT

Odontogenic sinus tract is an abnormal channel originating from infectious processes affecting the root tips, eroding bone to form an opening in the skin surface; they are frequently misdiagnosed and may be confused with other entities such as traumatic injury, bacterial and fungal infections, malignancy, presence of foreign body, pyogenic granuloma, chronic tuberculosis or osteomyelitis. The diagnosis is made based on clinical suspicion and is established by making panoramic and periapical radiographs and a fistulogram with contrast medium. The treatment involves root canal therapy or surgical removal according to the case.
