ABSTRACT

Cholesteatoma in a middle ear disease characterized by the presence of stratified keratinized epithelium within the cavities of the middle ear. It is benign with destructive behavior. The pathogenesis of its formation is multifactorial. Several theories try to explain their pathogenesis. They are classified according to its origin in congenital and acquired. Cholesteatomas can be asymptomatic or to pronounce with hearing loss and otorrhea. The opportune diagnosis and treatment diminish risk of complications. The treatment is surgical.
