ABSTRACT

Background: The placement of a peripheral catheter is the alternative to a peripheral vein to reach distant sites of the puncture as close to the vena cava, which has the characteristics of being remarkably flexible and rather atraumatic. However, this technique has the disadvantage of breakage or fragmentation of the catheter. Case presentation: We report a case of a patient undergoing surgery for an ectopic pregnancy uncomplicated which is placed in the cephalic vein of an IV right arm silicone ORX. After the operation is removed the same which is not achieved completely due to spontaneous rupture and quickly determines the surgical removal of a successful recovery. Conclusions: Spontaneous rupture of peripheral venous catheter is rare in today's scientific reports; the conduct in this complication is subdivided into prophylactic and therapeutic.
