ABSTRACT

Background: Having the most current values or reference ranges is useful to distinguish between "health" and "disease" and thus achieving a better interpretation of laboratory tests. Objective: To contribute to the constant updating and application of reference values or ranges of lab tests most commonly used in Cuba. Development: An exhaustive review was made of the diagnoses recorded in Cuba, describing the method used, the manufacturer and the biological sample used. Conclusions: Laboratory tests complement an adequate clinical method which presupposes that the result may be related to a relevant reference value to achieve a correct distinction between subjects with and without the disease. Its constant updating and application is effective from undergraduate teaching to the practice of the medical science profession.
