ABSTRACT

Encouraging primary prevention and comprehensive oral health in patients with special healthcare needs is an essential task in dentistry, and in pediatric dentistry in particular. Since these patients require special dental care from a very early age, they constitute a risk group. However, this group has not been given the attention it is due, hence it is vital that physicians and dentists show greater interest in guaranteeing that all patients, including those with specific health needs, receive the best possible level of care.
This article offers a review of related topics and establishes precepts for the management of oral health in patients with special needs.
