ABSTRACT

The term hyperplasia refers to the enlargement of the tissues in an organ caused by an increase in the number of cellular components. In this article, we present a clinical case study of idiopathic gingival hyperplasia in a thirteenyear-old female patient. The treatment consisted of motivation, oral hygiene instruction and surgical removal of excess gingival tissue. The histopathological study confirmed the presumptive diagnosis. Based on the foregoing, different gingival enlargements are analyzed following a review of related literature published by a range of authors.
