cerebral biopsy, alternative cerebral biopsy technique.

ABSTRACT

The object of this case is to present a technique for a cerebral biopsy guided by the distance of an establish anatomical reference point, avoiding the use of a stereotaxic system and with low risk for a patient with neurological deterioration without a definitive diagnosis.
The case is of a 34 year old woman with a quickly progressive neurological disease and clinical evidence of disseminated brain affection. She was studied by no risky methods and some therapeutic measures were used, without any positive result, so we decided to perform a cerebral biopsy with a technique guided by the measure of anatomical references, this way took sufficient brain tissue for the histopathologic diagnosis with minimum risk for the patient. The histopathologic study reported a Progressive Multifocal Leucoencephalopathy (PML), the clinical relevance, is that the patient didn’t show any immunodeficiency signs.
