ABSTRACT

Videoassisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has advantages over the open thoracotomy and one of the major benefits is to preserve the muscular wall of the chest, small incisions in the skin, this is associated with decreased postoperative, giving better cosmetic results pain, a decrease in the risk of infection in the wound, and rapid return to normal function. Indications include diagnostic and therapeutic biopsy tumors of the vertebral body, osteomyelitis, and spinal abscess, also the degenerative discs, spinal deformity surgery, the corporectomía decompression and stabilizing fractures, infection or tumors. Theoretically, such a procedure less invasive should result in a shorter stay in hospital, less pain, are reflected in lower cost.
