A prospective descriptive observational study was carried out, in order to determine the gastric cancer behavior in Gastroenterology Department of Provincial Hospital from Ciego de Avila, between September 2006 and February 2009. The universe consisted of 1934 patients who underwent upper digestive endoscopy, which were sampled a total of 41 patients with suspicious lesions of gastric cancer. Patients were distributed by age and sex, risk factors, clinical manifestations, endoscopic and histological findings. The most common age of onset of the disease corresponded to patients between 60 and 69 years with 30.4%, predominating male sex. Smoking was the main risk factor with 34.1%. 58.5% of patients experienced weight loss as the most important clinical manifestation. The predominant macroscopic variety was the ulcerated type (34.1%), with higher number of lesions at level antral. A 36.5% of cancers detected corresponded to the intestinal-type adenocarcinoma, the antrum constituted the most common localization.
