ABSTRACT

Anti N-Metil D-Aspartate (NMDA) receptor encephalitis, is a condition that usually develops in a characteristic way and is a major causes of encephalitis in our community.
Prodromal manifestations and psychiatric manifestations guide the differential diagnosis mainly with infectious viral diseases. Clinical and laboratorial differences between viral encephalitis and anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis have been reported in the literature.
There is an association between anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis and malignancies; in children it is primarily associated with teratomas, and in adults with ovarian cancer.
The management must be aggressive immunomodulatory therapy gven the high incidence of recurrence.
Our country has reported the presence of this condition and it should be a differential diagnosis in patients with encephalitis.
